Kaleidoscope-” A World In Our City” includes events and activities performed to celebrate cultural diversity and promote understanding and harmony. Visitors to the event can experience various traditions and cultures.

Kaleidoscope also brings us together as we realize the common bonds that unite us all. Our differences and similarities can create a strong foundation in our community.

2003 is Kaleidoscope’s 5th year and will grow beyond the more than 50 participating organizations and hundreds of patrons.

Planned activities include:

Parade – Kaleidoscope Family, City Centre Community, Richmond Hospital Foundation, and RCMP

Entertainment, including folk music and dancing performances on big stage

Cultural Arts and Booth Displays from over 20 countries

Food Festival (16 countries)

Kaleidoscope International Sports/Games competition

Statement of Purpose:

To initiate hands-on process throughout our community that will result in improved intercultural understanding.

To provide a vital service that each cultural group may not be able to achieve individually.

To experience enjoyment and enrichment from intercultural contact, understanding and appreciation, and an opportunity for cultural groups to work together.

To reach beyond tolerance – to understand, accept, respect and celebrate all cultures within our community.

To find a fun way to deal with an important subject.

To ensure that all activities educate, entertain, enrich and enlighten.

To emphasize our commonality – what it means to be a Canadian and the university of values underlying all cultures.
