On Friday, March 24th, at 8 p.m. Christ Church Cathedral, Vancouver, will open its doors for Anna Levy and Yarilo Music Society’s next concert – “Death and Resurrection”, one of our most powerful and divine programs! The musical choices are from very Russia’s musical heritage and will take us from the darkness and tragedy (Alfred Schnittke) to the light and triumph (Rachmaninoff) of this great culture.

Two monumental pieces are on their program:
Part 1:
Alfred Schnittke, “The Poet of Death”- piano trio. Music of Soviet reality, to which many of us can relate: haunting images, crashing dreams – the catastrophic aftermath of a lost soul.

Part 2:
Sergey Rachmaninoff – “Symphonic Dances” in a version for two pianos and percussion.
This is Rachmaninoff’s final work, a triumphant apotheosis of the great and powerful Russia he remembered! The piece finishes with a quotation from his All Night Vigil – “Blessed be the Lord” (“Благословен иеси Господи”)

Performers:
Anna Levy and Rosemary O’Connor – pianos
Martin Fisk – percussion
Nikita Pogrebnoy – Violin
Sungyong Lim – Cello

Tickets:
Early Bird: $18 ( by March 10) / $25 at the door
