For a second consecutive year, on the occasion of the National Holiday of Bulgaria, March 3rd in Vancouver the Bulgarian flag was officially raised. The event took place on March 2, 2018 at 4 pm in the “Friendship Gardens” in front of City Hall of New Westminster, the first capital of British Columbia.

The event was attended by the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Bulgaria in the province of British Columbia, Mr. Ron Suh, leaders and members of the Bulgarian community.

Andrea Stoyanova, a 4th grade student at the Bulgarian school in Vancouver performed the Bulgarian, and Canadian anthems. The favorite Bulgarian poems, “I am Bulgarian” and “Home Eaves” were recited by Nadia Ganeva, a 3rd grade student at the Bulgarian school in Vancouver.

The flag was raised by Mr. Chuck Puchmayr, Chair of the Multicultural Advisory Committee in the municipality. In his short speech he stated: “… today Canada is a multinational country where Bulgarian music can be heard in different places, and Bulgarian folklore can be seen at festivals in our city …”

The event ended with a performance of Bulgarian dances with all the participants.
