Dear Friends,

March 3rd is approaching, and with the holiday, our invitation to the virtual celebrations that we are planning in the province of British Columbia.

The Bulgarian-Canadian Society of British Columbia and the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto, with the support of the Bulgarian Embassy in Ottawa, are organizing several initiatives. They are related not only to the celebration of the 143rd anniversary of the Liberation of Bulgaria, but also to the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and Canada. The Bulgarian embassy opened in Ottawa in 1967, and the consulate general in Toronto opened in 1976.

One of our initiatives is an event that has become a tradition for us: the raising of the Bulgarian national flag, which this year will be held in the form of a small virtual ceremony at “Friendship Park” at New Westminster City Hall- the first capital of British Columbia.

The other initiative that became possible this year is the illumination of Vancouver City Hall in the colors of the Bulgarian flag. The event will be broadcast live on the Consulate General’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TorontoBulgaria/) and will be active after 9:30 PM on March 3rd.

Due to the pandemic measures in place, the organizers ask all citizens to stay at home and participate in the events online.

We are waiting for you in the virtual space and we hope to see you in person soon! Take care and stay healthy!
