Dear friends,
Join us for the Bulgarian community barbecue on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM to celebrate Bulgaria’s Independence Day!
This year, the event will be held at a new location, Port Royal Park – 215 Salter Street, New Westminster, BC, as the park where it was held in previous years is reserved for this date.
In addition to the ideal picnic shelter where our event will take place, the park offers a very nice playground, restrooms, and drinking water fountains, as well as a grassy area where you can lay down a blanket or camping chairs for rest and relaxation. No pegs are allowed in the grass.
The program will start at 2:00pm with performances of “Duo Balkanaria”, kuker and our dance groups “Kitka”, “Zornitsa”, and “Folk Misteria” and will end with a Bulgarian horó for all.
Parking is quite limited as it is only on the streets. We recommend carpooling or the best option would be parking at Anvil Center or somewhere else of your choice on the other side in New Westminster and taking the water taxi from Paddlewheeler Station (New Westminster Quay), a 3-4 minute boat ride that stops right at the park, $2.25 for adults, $1.25 for seniors and children 13-18, and people with disabilities, and free for children under 13.
Alcohol will not be sold, but moderate drinking is allowed in the park, so you can bring alcohol of your choice. Please drink responsibly!
