Dear friends,

We cordially invite you to our next exciting event “To Hope and Back” that present the tragic story of St.Louis ship in 1939! The ship was carrying about 1,000 Jewish refugees from Germany to America, but none of the North American countries allowed the ship to land and the ship was returned to Germany where most of the people perished in the death camps.

Our concert will follow the story as it is in the book “To Hope and Back” by Kathy Kacer. Two children travelling on the ship are telling the story. Through their eyes we can see the hope leaving Germany and the horror of going back to death.

Our event features two 13-year old children, who will tell the story together with the music of Philip Glass, Steve Reich and Iman Habibi.

Our program includes a specially created work by the Bulgarian composer Gheorghi Arnaoudov, “Save Us” for two pianos and percussion.

Performers: Anna Levy, Jane Hayes, Jonathan Bernard, Yaletown String Quartet.

Our special guest will be the book author Kathy Kacer, who will be coming from Toronto for this event.

Sunday, November 10, two shows – 3:00p.m. AND 7:30p.m.
