We are happy to present the movie “Vaklush” with the visit of the film director Nikolay Vasilev on May 24 (Friday) at 7:00pm in Douglass College, New Westminster, 1st floor, lecture room N2203.

The documentary “Vaklush” by director Nikolay Vasilev was shot in the period 1998-2022 and contains undisclosed archival footage of the life of the famous spiritual leader Vaklush Tolev. It is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of his birth and presents a story of the life and ideas of one of Bulgaria’s most enigmatic personalities.

Nikolay Vasilev is a screenwriter and director. He won the Jameson Award (2010) for his movie “Tales”. In his creative biography, there are dozens of other award-winning films, including “The Good Samaritan”, “The Road to Tiwa”, “High”, “Good Hell”, “Spare Wings”, and „Epiphany”. In the year 2019 his movie “Theo’s Formula” was released, dedicated to the famous Kazanlak physics teacher – Teodosi Teodosiev. In 2021 Nikolay Vasilev presented “Being the Master”, a portrait of Vladimir Dimitrov the Master, as well as the movie “Gladiator”, dedicated to the two-time Olympic champion Boyan Radev.

“Vaklush” ranks second in the National Film Center’s ranking of the most viewed documentaries of the decade. So far it has been selected to participate in 14 festivals worldwide. It has already won 9 awards from America, France, India, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The movie includes interviews with Peter Stoyanov – President of Bulgaria in the period 1997-2002, Dr. Ilko Semerdzhiev – Minister of Health in the period 1999-2001, Prof. Dr. Maria Slavova – lawyer and teacher at St. Petersburg University Cl. Ohridski”, Ognyan Minchev – political scientist and PhD in Sociological Sciences, prof. Ivan Zhelev – Theologian, Associate Professor. Dr. Ivan Bachvarov – physicist and teacher at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Dr. Kiril Kolikov – mathematician and teacher at the Paisii Hilendarski University, Boyko Stankushev – journalist, etc.
