Five of Place des Arts’ talented music faculty members have teamed up to share their passion for music at a faculty concert on January 22 at 7:30PM at Place des Arts. We ♥ Music features Anna Levy on piano, Johanna Hauser on clarinet, Roger Mangas on viola, Karina Slupski on violin and Aleksandra Dziobek on cello.

Forming trios and quartets, these performers will draw the audience into the intimate magic of live chamber music. Repertoire includes works by Krommer, Sumera, Rachmaninoff, Brahms and Milhaud.

Says Johanna Hauser, the organizing force behind the concert, “We love music – we love teaching it and we love playing it – and, ofcourse, each of us has our favourite types and styles of music. Inthis concert, the performers all had a say in what will be performed.
As a result, there will be a broad range of periods and styles, from an elegant, classical quartet to a lush, romantictrio, to an improvisational contemporary duo.”

The performers in We ♥ Music comprise Place des Arts’ very own “United Nations of Music.” Hailing from all corners of the globe, they bring a wealth of training and experience as well as a diverse and rich cultural heritage to this concert.

Johanna Hauser was born in the US and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Vassar College and her Master’s Degree in performance from the Manhattan School of Music; Aleksandra Dziobek immigrated to Canada from Poland, where she received her B.A. in Cello Performance from the Academy of Music; Karina Slupski is also Polish born but studied in the US, receiving her BM and MM degrees in Performance from the Thornton School of Music at the USC in Los Angeles; Anna Levy is Bulgarian by birth and received her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Moscow Conservatory; and Roger Mangas began his musical training in his home state of Indiana and completed his Master of Music degree in Performance at the University of Victoria.

Place des Arts’ faculty concerts provide an accessible opportunity for local music lovers to hear exceptional musicians playing in an intimate setting.
